Happy New Year! I thoroughly enjoyed taking a brief hiatus in the month of December. I’m starting to gear up to plan my publishing year, and to take care of a few things around here.
While I’m behind the eight ball on all of this, I’m trying to not beat myself up too much about it.
As of right now, my goal for the year is to finish the last book in my Cozy Mystery series, and to complete three books in a new series under a new pen name.
Part of being an indie is finding your stride. Right now, I have yet to do this. I’m noticing some shifts in my current genre that I’m not too keen on. At the same time, I’m noticing shifts in another genre that I feel that I can get on board with. Shiny object syndrome? Maybe. Only time will tell.
As I announced in December, I changed the name of my site to the StrugglingIndie.com. New logo, new look, new name!
I think for some, the term “Struggling Indie” might have a negative connotation, and I agree that it might. However, it’s not exactly wrong either. No matter where you are in your author journey, you struggle a bit. You might struggle to get words on the page one day, or with a new Amazon policy the next. It’s always going to be an uphill battle and take work. It would be lovely if we could all write a “break out” novel right off the bat and then just watch while the money rolls in. It’s just not the way things work. This business takes hard work, dedication, business knowhow, and a little bit of luck.
I’ve also created a discussion group. I can’t believe that I hadn’t thought of it sooner. Here I am trying to build a community, with no place to meet!
I’d love to hear more about you, and your publishing goals for this year.
Until Next Time,
