One of the most inspiring posts I see on my many author forums is when someone takes the time to share their story. Each Friday, I’m going to feature a different indie author to help inspire all of you!
What is your pen name?
What genre do you write in?
How many books have you published?
What inspired you to become a writer?
I read a ton of books, and also participated in NaNoWriMo for the last two years. First year yielded something I consider mediocre; last year I got something I thought was decent enough to polish. I’ve always admired the science-fiction writers of old for letting me imagine outlandish things and decided I’d try my hand at emulating them. I hope to make my readers think and to get a bit of fun money for eventual retirement.
What is your indie success story?
Well, so far, I can buy a couple of cups of coffee.. but I released the novel only a few days ago. My objective for this novel is to recoup the costs for the cover artist and that’s pretty much it. My secondary objective is for it to be part of a backlog as I write more novels.
What are your marketing and advertising strategies?
Pretty much word of mouth… I post on some Reddit promo threads, posted on my facebook, emailed a few colleagues whom I thought might be interested. Also registered with voraciousreadersonly, which will run a giveaway at the end of July.
What are you working on right now?
Currently I’m just trying to get my author website together, fix it so it works on mobile, and add a newsletter form of some sort. In the background, I am planning the sequel to that novel, which I will draft in late October/early November.
