Indie Author Spotlight – Sean Morrissey Carroll

One of the most inspiring posts I see on my many author forums is when someone takes the time to share their story. Each Friday, I’m going to feature a different indie author to help inspire all of you!

sean c_aaron moreno-2 - Morrissey Carroll

What is your pen name?

Sean Morrissey Carroll

What genre do you write in?

Science fiction, slipstream non-fiction

How many books have you published?

None as of yet.

What inspired you to become a writer?

Fascination with the future and what technology & culture will bring, and a want to get back to writing. I used to be a curator and art critic, left for a decade to start a restaurant, and in the past couple of years have gotten back into writing with the help of the local scene here in Houston.

What is your indie success story?

I’ve had a great time writing and learning about craft. Fiction is very different from the non-fiction I used to do, and the field is deep. I’ve been a co-host of the weekly Writers Lunch for two years and now a board member of Houston Independent Authors, meeting new friends and having great discussions. I’ve written one manuscript I am now editing, Karman Crash, and I’ve had two short stories picked for publishing by literary magazines.

What are your marketing and advertising strategies?

Building a platform on Twitter and a social group on Facebook, reading and offering advice on Reddit, and meeting other readers and authors in Houston.

What are you working on right now?

Starting a first draft of a new book, Blood is Very Heavy, and editing Karman Crash with my critique group.

Where can we find your work?

Defunkt Mazine, Vol 3, “Future Floods of Houston, blog at, and upcoming in Nebo Magazine, “Dig & Fill”, as well as upcoming on the Defunkt Magazine blog “Sandworm Survival and Microbiome” (lol Dune fanfic)
